Starting Up: Publicize

This is part of the Blog Making series. If you missed the first of the series, here they are:

  1. Starting Up: Niche

  2. Starting Up: Blog Platform

Now, I will discuss about publicizing your blog or site. This is probably the hardest thing to do when having a blog that would earn you money. The amount of money you earn would be dependent on the traffic generated by your blog or site. Having good content is one quality of a blog that would drive readers to come back to your site.

There are a lot of ways in which you can publicize your site. You can do it online by joining various forums and reading (and commenting) on blogs that is related to your niche or you can do it offline, by giving out business cards or posters (hey it works, you know!). Also, if ever you're a part of an organization, make them involved. You have to be aggressive in getting people to read your blog, given that you are writing high quality content. I am currently experimenting on a way to drive traffic on your site. The concept is to invade other niche and intergrating it to your niche.

This post is subject to change as i explore more ways to improve site traffic to my site. Please subscribe by e-mail by subscribing at the sidebar or via RSS reader by clicking the RSS image under "Subscribe".

Getting Started: Conceptualize

Before starting a blog, you must find/determine your niche. A niche is defined as a focused, targetable portion. If you want your blog to earn money, determining your niche is a critical process. There are a lot of factors that influence this decision. Among them are:

1. Audience

Finding the right audience is one of the important factors. Do you want a narrow spectrum of audience? Or do you want a larger and more broad one? Having a blog that can generate revenue, we must target the latter. Having a broad audience will improve your site traffic.

2. Knowledge Base

As a beginner, you must first concentrate on the things that you know very well. For example, if you are a medicine student, one must expect you to make a blog catered to medical students or at least a blog related to your field (e.g. Medicine Blog). Having this base knowledge won't exhaust your resources and may also lead to self improvement in your chosen field. However, once you have mastered one of your niche, you might want to try out other things, like making a PSP blog, or making a Beauty blog. There are a lot of things to try out. There is no harm in learning something new. However, always remember that before publishing an article, you must assure that all the facts are correct, especially when writing about articles which can be used for research.

3. Trends

Having a niche which targets the trend of the time is a good start. Learn what's hot and concentrate on it. This will attract readers and may be a good starting point for your blog.

***Just remember not to deviate from your niche. Basically, it's finding your niche and sticking to it. Once you have established your niche, it's time to make your blog.
